Small, Solid, Simple & Sweet

This is the first assignment we receive as a student at college of the redwoods. My interpretiation was a desktop cabinet with two doors and two drawers. I wanted to make a piece which inspires a writer or designer or anyone who values a contemplative workspace. The cabinet is made from solid claro walnut with madrone on the back and pear wood drawer sides. The corners are dovetailed by hand, as are the drawers. I was inspired by the natural motion of the waves, the ripples of sand on the beach, which led to the organic undulating handles. These were carved into the faces of the drawers and doors, allowing the grain to flow across the piece.

The piece measures about 24" long by 7" high by 9 in deep.
